Hillel at The George Washington University’s
Mission Statement
George Washington University Hillel’s (GW Hillel) mission is to engage and inspire Jewish students to actively contribute to Jewish life in America, Israel and beyond, and to be global citizens dedicated to tikkun olam, creating a world of peace through justice.
With an eye toward tolerance and pluralism, GW Hillel fosters a community where different kinds of Jews learn from each other and respect each others spiritual dignity and lifestyle. Also, it is our goal to help foster the acceptance of those with different worldviews and belief systems as well. Dedicated to Klal Yisrael, we believe that every Jew has something to contribute to Jewish life on campus and to the on-going story of the Jewish people.
To inspire continuity and creativity in Jewish life, Hillel provides social, cultural and educational opportunities that are meaningful and appealing to Jewish students and to the campus at large. Committed to a pluralistic vision we support all the streams of Judaism and varied approaches that make up contemporary Jewish life while encouraging dialogue and friendship with people of all faiths and cultures.
In accordance with this mission, GW Hillel serves as the catalyst for Jewish life on campus and an architect in building a university community that creates connection between different kinds of people. In order to fulfill this mission, GW Hillel provide facilities, guidance, and organization for the cultural, educational, religious, and social welfare of Jewish students in accordance with the goals and objectives of the International Hillel Foundation and The George Washington University.
