On November 11, 2007 from 11am-5pm we will be conducting a bone marrow donor drive at the George Washington University Hillel (2300 H St. NW) in conjunction with Hillel and the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation. Gift of Life is an internationally recognized organization facilitating bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Through targeted recruitment efforts focusing on Jewish communities throughout North America, Gift of Life has greatly improved the chances that Jewish patients needing transplants will find genetically matched donors.

Our goal is add as many Jewish people (ages 18-60) to the Gift of Life’s registry. All you need is one Jewish grandparent to be eligible! The registration process is fast and easy, requiring only a swab of cells from inside your cheek (no blood will be drawn at this time). You do not need to do any preperation for the registration, this is not a blood test. I would appreciate it if you could pass along this email to any of your colleagues, friends, or family who might be interested in signing up as well.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have, so please feel free to contact me at any time. Furthermore, I am a bone marrow stem cell donor myself, and I would strongly encourage all of you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to perform a mitzvah. This is an opportunity to be a hero. YOU can save someone’s life; it is the ultimate mitzvah. One of the greatest lessons that Gift of Life has taught me is that not only do we need each other to survive, but we also need the willingness of all in order to endure.

Please contact Amy Fishman or Beth Lattin at if you have any questions. For further information about Gift of Life please visit www.giftoflife.org .
