Over the past several months, the Jewish Student Association has been working to update its operating bylaws and to provide the organization with more sound nomination and election procedures. Any Jewish student at GW or active member of a student organization under the umbrella of the JSA is encouraged to vote online between Monday February 5th and Thursday February 8th at 5 PM by visiting the Election and Bylaws Revision Proposal Voting Page. The revised election procedures propose to:

  • Provide a more equitable method of selecting members for the nominating committee
  • Allow student groups to maintain autonomy over their own board and board structure
  • Give the Jewish community on campus a direct voice in choosing who represents them
  • Create a formal document outlining the method by which officers are chosen to resolve any conflicts should they arise

In addition to those changes, the revised bylaws propose to:

  • Create a General Board, composed of student group leaders to foster communications within the organization
  • Reduce overlap between Executive Board positions so that the board better reflects the organization’s needs
  • Generally unify the Jewish Student Association by strengthening the relationship between the Executive Board and student groups
  • Create a formal document outlining specifically how the organization is run, to resolve any conflict should they arise

More information on the proposed changes can be found on the Proposal Cover Sheet. The full text of the Bill to Revise the Nomination and Election Procedures as well as the Proposed Revised Bylaws of Spring 2007 are also available. Please contact for more information.

Again, eligible members are encouraged to vote by visiting the Election and Bylaws Revision Proposal Voting Page
